Calling All Volunteers!

Volunteering at Mounds Park Community Garden is a crucial component of building and maintaining our shared green space. There are various ways you can lend you services and expertise, such as:

  • Assisting with garden maintenance

  • Organizing community events

  • Sharing gardening knowledge

  • Contributing specialized skills like landscaping or composting

What if you don’t plan on being a member?

Even if you don’t garden and don’t plan on being a member, you can contribute to our garden in a number of ways. If you’re a musician, maybe you might want to perform at an intimate gathering around harvest time? Maybe you love to cook and want to facilitate a backyard barbecue using fresh vegetables gathered from the garden. What if you love earthworms? (Someone has to.) Maybe you might consider facilitating a tutorial on no-till gardening?

Whatever your passion, there’s probably a place for you at the Mounds Park Community Garden. Unless your passion is fracking for natural gas. In which case, we probably won’t be working together.

You get the point.

By coming together to volunteer, we not only enhance the beauty of our garden but also nurture connections within our community, making a positive impact that can be seen and felt by all.

Also noteworthy:

In response to my urgent plea for volunteers, someone recently made a salient observation. They noted the work I’ve done for the garden has been impressive (which was kind of them to note). But, they went on, it might be too impressive.

They said, I’ve done so much work, people who enter into this little universe might think there’s a whole team of people working to built and operate the Mounds Park Garden.

Why do they need volunteers? They might think. They appear to have a whole team of people working for them.

That is a good point.

In light of this curve-ball, I want to enthusiastically emphasize that while this project has had many champions, helpers, and advisors (for whom I am extremely grateful) I am doing much of the heavy lifting on my own.
